A low bed, depending on the bed frame itself, can have a very cool and modern look. In general, low beds are platform beds, which are the kind that contemporary designers seem to favor. There is a sort of mid-century retro look to them, while still looking very current in design. Combined with matching night tables and a long, low dresser, the effect can be quite striking. If you do opt for a platform bed, remember that these do not have box-springs. Make sure that you can sleep comfortably on a mattress that is placed directly on a flat platform.
I love the look of this bed – now if I only had the space:

The effect a low bed can make is probably most striking in a large room, because its low height accentuates the feeling of spaciousness. Low beds can also work very well in small rooms, since they can help the room feel less cluttered. The bed being low, it is not as imposing as a taller bed. Some of these bed frames come with night tables integrated in their design. Others with headboards that offer storage space.
