Puffer jackets are fashionable again, which is great because they are so warm. In fact, what makes them puffy is precisely what makes them warm. Those puffed out ridges or squares are full of insulating material. This design was originally purely functional, but over time the look of it has become in vogue, and now they are available in all sorts of great colors, some of them quite shiny!

Why would a leotard have a hood? As far as I can tell, there is no practical reason for it. It seems to be purely a question of fashion. After Lady Gaga was seen wearing a black leotard with a hood, this type of garment started getting very popular. If you are planning to dress like her for Halloween, one of these leotards would certainly make an easy costume. They are available in several sizes, colors and fabrics.

If you want to keep your shoulders warm when wearing a strapless dress, but don’t want to ruin the effect by wearing a sweater or jacket, a good solution is to wear a shrug. These are sort of bolero-style jackets, sometimes just long enough to cover your shoulders, sometimes longer, that are made to complement the dress you are wearing, rather than hiding it like a regular jacket would.

The version on the right is more of a jacket than a shrug, but I included it because it looks so nice:
