Wooden folding tray tables

There’s something fun and comfortable about eating a meal in front of the TV. But, of course, what not so fun is trying to balance a plate on your lap without spilling anything. And resting your plate on a low coffee table is hardly any better. You end up having to bend over, which is no way to enjoy a meal, and it probably doesn’t help digestion. A small table that has the right height makes all the difference. It lets you enjoy your meal, without worrying about spillage and without having to bend too much.

Two models I find pretty nice:

These “TV tables” are almost always collapsible, so they can easily be folded up and stashed away between meals. There was a time when these tables were almost always made of cheap, thin metal trays, often with flowers painted on them.

Folding step stools for adults

Unless you are very tall, it is likely that you will need a boost every now and then in order to reach the higher shelves in your kitchen or the light fixtures hung from the ceilings. For those times, a small step stool is ideal, especially if it can be folded up and put away until needed again. Of course you want to get something sturdy – something that won’t move or slide once you step on it.

This one looks like it would be nice and sturdy, I think:

Broom caddy

Brooms and mops usually have a hole at the top of their handles so that you can hang them on a hook. This makes it easy to store them, but screwing in hooks is not always possible, nor is it necessarily the best solution. If space allows, you could get a caddy made especially for brooms, mops, or anything that has a handle, such as gardening tools and the like. Some of these are free-standing floor models, while other have to be mounted on a wall.

Here’s two examples – I picked the one on the left because it looks nice enough to be exposed in a kitchen. The one on the right however would be better kept in a garage, I think:
