When it comes to dress pants, every man should have have a black pair and a brown pair, along with other colors like grey and navy blue. Pants that are dressy enough for a formal setting, but that can be dressed-down for casual occasions. Worn with a white dress shirt, brown slacks are perfectly suitable for the office. But the look is not so formal that it would be out of place in a more casual setting.
Here are three examples, my favorite being the Haggar, because of the narrow leg:

As for shoes, brown would be the obvious choice, but black shoes are fine to pair with brown slacks. Unless, perhaps, if the pants are a very light shade of brown. Then the contrast could be too great.
